Free Camelot Wheel for DJs

The Camelot wheel turns music theory into a clock: 12 numbers, two rings (A = minor, B = major). Songs next to each other on the wheel mix in key. Below is the full chart, and the app version is interactive and works with your own music library.

How to read it

Find the key of the song that is playing. Its number is the position on the clock and its letter is the ring: A for minor, B for major.

From any code you can usually move to:

  • 8A Same key — Safest: always in tune
  • 9A +1 (clockwise) — Smooth lift, a fifth up
  • 7A −1 (counter-clockwise) — Smooth, slightly calmer
  • 8B Relative major — Same notes, mood switches brighter
  • 10A +2 energy boost — Noticeable lift, use with a short blend
  • 3A +7 semitone lift — Big “key change” lift, works on drops

Example shown for 8A (A minor).

FAQ

What is the Camelot wheel?

A chart that gives each of the 24 musical keys a code from 1A to 12B. Minor keys are A (inner ring), major keys are B (outer ring). Neighbouring codes are harmonically compatible.

Which keys mix with 8A?

8A (A minor) mixes with 8A, 7A, 9A and 8B, plus energy moves to 10A and 3A.

Is the Camelot wheel free to use?

Yes. The chart on this page and the interactive wheel in the app are free, with no account needed.

Does it work with my DJ software?

The app reads keys from Rekordbox XML, Traktor NML, VirtualDJ, Serato or generic CSV and M3U, and converts musical key names like “Am” or “F#m” to Camelot codes.
